  1. This is an excellent scale and highly accurate. The operating instructions were somewhat weak and should be a little more intuitive; especially on how to measure non-essential weight.

Review of a similar Soehnle scale, not this one.

Worked brilliantly for two years, then became inaccurate, unable to be zero’d or read a consistent weight. New batteries didn’t help. These aren’t cheap scales; they should be reliable for years.

This scale has proved to be very accurate and well made. I put it to far more use then perhaps a normal cook might because I have a craft and culinary side business. Its stood up very well as have all of the other scales I own by this brand. I particularly like that it can weigh in 1g and .05 ounce weights as this is important to me.

  4. The large square 6.25 inch surface is flat to the edge making it easy to weigh over sized items. It’s slim height design makes it easy to store. Right up front on the product, it states “Max 5000g x 1g Max 9lb 15oz x 0.05oz”. This is a discrepancy from the advertised 11 pounds, though 5kg is 11.02 pounds. When it first arrived, I used a 100g calibration weight to test the scale. Waiting 5 seconds, the result would usually drop by 2 grams. I received a range of 97-101 grams depending on where the weight was placed; back left the lightest, front right the heaviest. Center was 99 grams.

The bottom looks like it was designed to have rubber feet, but they were not present. If used daily in a kitchen environment, I would also be concerned with using a damp sponge to wipe the bottom clean with the many holes in the plastic.

The battery is a “Lithium 3V CR2430″ which currently sells on Amazon for $1-3.

Strong points: precision, simple one-button design.

Weak points: battery life (lithium button cell, not cheap and not readily available when you suddenly need one); repeatability of measurement; abrupt and unexpected power-off in the middle of adding multiple ingredients; hard-to-access grams/ounces switch; doesn’t feel as solid as it looks.
